Elvis D. Okoffo

Elvis D. Okoffo (originally from Ghana) is a final year PhD Candidate at the Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences (QAEHS), The University of Queensland, Australia and is working on the identification and quantification of selected plastics and additives in environmental samples using pyrolysis gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Pyr-GCMS) and FTIR analytical methods. Elvis’s PhD project focuses on the quantitative assessment of plastic residues in Australian biosolids (treated sewage sludge) that are intended for agricultural land applications in Australia. With the widespread consumptions of plastics and use of biosolids for agricultural purposes in Australia and around the world, Elvis’s PhD will provide the first quantitative per-capita mass loads and emission estimate of plastic types discharged into the Australian agricultural land through biosolids end-use and their potential fate and impacts on soils and crops. Elvis has several scientific publications in top journals in his field and has presented at major international conferences including the American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition, as well as participating in local Australian presentations to the public.
